Now Reading: The Friday Night Knitting Club

One of my 2016 goals was to read. A lot. I’m not sure if I’m going to reach that goal, anyways. As per right now I’m pretty busy with different projects going on and life, so the only moment I get to read something is in the train and bus on the way to work. And even that doesn’t happen every day.

After mostly binge reading all the Harry Potter series I started the first book of The Friday Night Knitting Club trilogy by Kate Jacobs. It’s the story of Georgia Walker, a single mom in NYC that opened a yarn store when her daughter was a baby. Her life changes when a few women start spending Friday evenings at the store. In a little time, the group of women begins to share their experiences and form a bond.

Without giving too much away, I’ll say that I am loving the series so far. I just started reading the third book and I liked watching the characters grow. There are a couple of sad events happening on the first book and I liked to see how each and everyone of the characters dealt with it.

Also, they talk a lot about knitting, as it is the main reason why the group get together on the first place. And even if I don’t know how to knit yet, I do like to crochet (when I have the time! Lol).

Can I just divide myself into two or three so I can do everything that I want and need to do? Pretty please?

Oh, well, I will have to put into practice this 7 steps to have a productive day and try to do as many things as I can in the time that I have.

Anyways, I do recommend the series. I hope you like the books and you let me know what you think!

Hello, March: It’s going to be an amazing time

After the (not so long and cold) winter, I always get happy when March comes. It seems like it is the time of the year when everything starts being happier and brighter. The temperatures go (finally) up, the days get longer… What’s not to like about March?

Oh, and it’s my birthday too!

Ever since I went to school I divided the year in two periods:

  • October to March was the sad part of the year. Cold, rainy, the days are short and it gets dark really early (to me). It was the time of the year when you needed to put layers and layers of clothes not to be cold, and I usually got lazy to go outside. Fortunately, a few holidays during this time made the “sad season” a little happier, like Christmas. I’ve always loved Christmas 😀
  • March to September is the happier time, as the days start getting longer, the temperature raises and you can enjoy being under the sun in the park (or the beach, if you’re lucky to live nearby). I love it when you get off work or class and you can still grab some drinks with some friends because there’s still daylight around 8-9pm. That really makes me a happy person.

So, today I wanted to make a list of things that I can’t wait to happen in the upcoming months. Some of them are already planned (hello, Chicago!), and some others are still ideas to plan.

Hello, March

  • I hope I can get my driver’s license in a couple of weeks. The immigration process is being a rather big pain in the butt, and I couldn’t be happier to be almost done with it. Yeah, I am preparing a few posts about this subject.
  • I want to prepare a couple of small day trips/excursions this month, taking advantage of both the warmer temperatures and the later sundown. We visited a couple of State Parks last summer and they were very pretty, so I’m aiming to start going to some this year too. And hiking Stone Mountain. Because that view is very worth it.
  • Daylight saving time! – March 13th. I can’t wait for this to happen. Basically because it will mean that it’s going to get dark an hour later. And I love that.
  • St Patrick’s! – March 17th. Since we are going to Chicago at the end of April, I’ll have to check out the green painted Chicago River another time.

Spring is here!

  • Welcome, SPRING! – March 21st. And it doesn’t really matter that it’s a Monday. We should celebrate somehow!
  • My birthday! – March 24th. I’m not happy to turn a year older, but, you know, how not to be happy on your birthday! 😀 Also, we have tickets to go see the Cirque du Soleil with my in-laws and we’ll probably go have dinner after.
  • Easter. I’ll look for some events happening in the city. Maybe some egg hunting for adults?
  • I also have my days packed with things to do for the blog, on my social networks and a couple of other projects that I’m dealing with. It’s going to be a busy month! And I can’t wait to make everything happen.

Our trip to Chicago is going to happen in April, but it’s something to be looking for. We’re not going to have that much time up there, but I’m sure we’ll be able to squeeze some visits and walks around the city. Let me know in the comments if you have some local spots to recommend! 😀

Let me know also in the comments if there’s something in particular that you’re looking for to happen this month. I always love to hear other plans!

Have a happy month!

12 Hairstyles to try

I have a weird relationship with my hair. I like it long so I can style it different ways (braids and other updos/half updos), but it usually bothers me and I’m on the run, so I end up with a ponytail or a messy bun. So I get bored and I get it cut.

Last time that I felt like that, it was December 2013, and I cut about 11 inches. I was actually really happy with the result. And I cut it again (same style) the following April.

short hair vs long hair

I haven’t cut it ever since because I wanted it long. And now I’m just tying it in easy and fast ponytails and messy buns lol The “I want what I don’t have” story.

I have decided that I have to dedicate a little more time to my long hair and try new hairstyles. I have a board on Pinterest (Hairstyles to Try) and today I bring you a few of those pictures for inspiration (click on the picture to go directly to the pin). Let’s make it a goal to try a couple of these before February ends, shall we?

Aren’t they super cute? Most of these are so easy to make that I am sure I can pull them off any day, even if I’m on a run. I just need to take a couple extra minutes but they will definitely worth it.

Should we start a challenge on Instagram to really be committed to it? Haha Let me know in the comments what are your favorite hairstyles and how you deal with the lack of time/motivation to style your hair!

My favorite Christmas songs

Hi everyone! How are you doing?

I am Izaskun, Mai’s little sister. I am a Youtuber with three different channels: one in English and two in Spanish (main and vlog channel). I talk a little bit about everything and nothing and you’re more than welcome to come check it out! I’ll leave the links below so you can come say hi!

When Mai told me if I wanted to collaborate on her blog I was really excited about it. She appeared in a couple of my videos and I thought this was a great chance to participate on her project too!

I have always felt divided about Christmas time. I love the lights, decorating the house and seeing my family. But sometimes it is overwhelming having so many people at home (my family is really big), preparing the house and the food, expecting everything to be perfect… And let’s be honest, perfection doesn’t exist.

But music always helps and Christmas time feels better with Christmas songs, doesn’t it? So I come today to share with you my favorite music for the holidays!

Christmas Songs

10 – Sleigh Ride.

It’s a staple in every Christmas movie and it’s not Christmas until you hear it! Every time I listen to it my brain turns into a festive way. It makes a perfect combo!

9 – All I want for Christmas is you.

This song is a must in this list, but I’m one of those people who are tired of listening to it every year and every day, sung by everybody. The most known version is, of course, by the great Mariah Carey, and it’s not Christmas until you have listen to it at least once.

8 – Winter Wonderland.

Who doesn’t know this song? And admit it, who hasn’t sung it at least once? You can find this track in a bunch of Original Soundtracks. A great song to have as a background sound while having a family dinner.

7 – Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Do you want to get a little emotional? This is your song. It reminds me of the moment on a Christmas movie when the family is talking, laughing and eating around the table. The camera slowly goes away and we can see that outside is snowing. And maybe the leading character is walking on the streets, alone. Of course, at the end of the song there will have a happy ending and the leading character won’t be outside alone. (Too much imagination… :D)

6 – Rockin’ around the Christmas tree.

I love to sing and dance this song, it has a great rhythm to get ready for Christmas time, decorate the place, eat Christmas sweets (I love Christmas sweets) and have fun!

5 – Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Of all the versions this song has, the one I like the most is Frank Sinatra’s. It makes me feel I’m living on a Christmas movie (at the end, when everybody is happily together). Michael Bublé’s style is very similar to Sinatra’s and he nails the song too.

4 – Feliz Navidad.

This one had to be on this top 10. It’s perfect to learn how to say Merry Christmas in Spanish! I really like this song and there are a lot of different versions to choose from, all of them perfect to have fun and get a little bit crazy with family, friends or whoever you want to get Christmas crazy with!

3 – Last Christmas.

I think every girl and woman who sings has sung this song (see what I did here?). While I was looking for one version I found out it has been sung by Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ashley Tisdale, Carly Rae Jepsen and many more. It was originally published by Wham!, a British duet, in 1984. I have always loved this song.

2 – Santa Claus is coming to town.

This is another great song to get into the festive mood and sing out loud with family and friends while dancing around the house during the holidays. Does it seem like you went crazy? No, it’s called happiness! 😀

1 – Jingle Bell Rock.

This is the winner for me: the best song to sing and dance on Christmas. Funny, but still Christmassy. I love the original version (the one that everyone knows), but I have to admit that the version Glee did was awesome too.

Right below I’ll link a YouTube playlist I created just for you with my favorite versions of each of these songs. Let’s get festive! I would love to know your Christmas favorite songs too so don’t forget to share them in the comments below.

Thank you for reading me, talk to you soon! Enjoy!

Christmas Movies Challenge

What better way to end November and start December than with a Christmas Challenge?

I was thinking what to do, because with all those Vlogmas around I felt I wanted to do something too. However, as I don’t vlog (yet), I didn’t know what to do. Finally, I came up with something: 1 movie per day until Christmas. Isn’t that great?

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE Christmas movies. They get me in a great mood no matter what. Yeah, I’m that crazy lady that watches Christmas movies in August… and I’m so cool with that!

For this challenge I’ve gone to several websites to check out which ones are the best/perfect/most watched Christmas movies of all time and I’ve done my own selection. Some of the movies I have already watched, but some others are new to me.

I watched A Nightmare Before Christmas on Halloween (for some reason I think that’s a better moment to watch that movie), so I didn’t include it in this list.

I wish I had more time to be able to add all the movies that I left out of the list but are still great. I might watch them anyway. 2 movies in a day… why not?

Want to do the challenge with me? Use #FMWLChristmas on Twitter or Instagram so we can be challenge buddies! We can also talk about everything decorations, DIY, outfits or anything Christmas! Let me know in the comments what movies would you add to the list too.

Happy movie watching!
